Education – Flood Protection Center

Education – Flood Protection Center

At Norsyn, we contributed to the establishment of the world’s first training and testing center for flood protection in connection with cloudbursts and storm surges.

Flooding is becoming increasingly frequent and causes significant damage in Denmark and abroad. As a response, an initiative was launched to establish a dedicated test center for flood protection technologies. Norsyn has been involved since the concept design phase, delivering detailed design, tendering, and construction management during execution.

At Norsyn, we prepared tender documents for four separate construction packages: earthworks, paving materials, building structures, and landscape works.

The project was particularly challenging due to PFAS contamination in the soil at the fire department’s premises. At the time, PFAS had just become a political concern in Denmark, which affected the permitting process.

In addition to testing, the center also serves an educational purpose (video by DR Ultra Nyt).

“The center enables emergency services, private solution providers, research institutions and citizens to co-develop, test and demonstrate new mobile solutions for protection against cloudbursts and storm surges, enhancing response efficiency when severe weather strikes. Through training programs and test procedures, the center contributes to safeguarding people, buildings and infrastructure from water damage in new and more effective ways than previously possible.” (Quote translated from Danish)
