Energy supply – Heat Exchanger Station

At Norsyn, we were tasked with designing a new heat exchanger station to be located next to the industrial area on Sandvadsvej in Køge.
To avoid compromising the nearby forest belt more than necessary, we allowed the conditions of the cultural landscape to significantly influence the design of the building. The exterior of the building is clad with green walls and matte black metal panels, which discreetly blend into the surroundings. While the architecture is dictated by these factors, the main emphasis in the design is determined by the trapezoidal shape of the plot and the functional needs of the heat exchanger station.

The Building at Night
At night, the building will further blend into the environment. The dark facade elements will appear invisible, and only the interior of the building will be visible. Through the large glass sections, the illuminated piping systems of the heat exchanger station can be seen from both Egedesvej and the railway. Cyclists and pedestrians on Egedesvej will experience the site as a comforting presence, as the light from the building’s interior creates an impression of life. Children and other passersby will get a glimpse into the heart of Danish energy supply – something that was traditionally hidden in the past.
