Høje Taastrup District Heating – Large Heat Pumps

Høje Taastrup District Heating – Large Heat Pumps

Following the decommissioning of a groundwater abstraction well by HOFOR, a new groundwater lowering system was needed to prevent the groundwater level from rising too high in a nearby residential area.

Høje Taastrup Municipality and Høje Taastrup District Heating investigated synergies between water and energy infrastructure. It was determined that the extracted groundwater could be used as a heat source for large-scale heat pumps. A preliminary technical and economic feasibility analysis was conducted.

However, installation of heat pumps is not permitted in central combined heat and power plant (CHP)-covered areas of Denmark. Therefore, a formal exemption application was submitted to the Danish Energy Agency, which was approved. The next phase included obtaining local authority and environmental permits and proceeding with the technical design.

In phase one, Norsyn carried out the overall technical feasibility analysis and prepared the exemption application. In phase two, Norsyn was responsible for the performance-based tender, the heat pump system, and the associated building. During the execution phase, Norsyn handled construction management and site supervision.
