Gentofte – District Heating Roll-out

Gentofte – District Heating Roll-out

The project includes the phase-out of natural gas corresponding to annual CO₂ savings of 24,000 tons – equivalent to the emissions of approximately 11,000 cars per year.

Planning

Norsyn has been involved in the district heating expansion in Gentofte since 2014. From the beginning, we contributed to the existing rollout, starting with a feasibility study followed by socioeconomic, utility company, and end-user economic assessments, which served as input to the statutory project proposal.

This proposal is the formal document submitted to the municipality to obtain final approval for converting from natural gas to district heating.

As part of early planning, detailed schedules and staffing plans were developed for Gentofte District Heating. A comprehensive strategy was also created for sales and citizen communication related to the upcoming rollout.

Technical Consultancy

As part of the technical advisory services, hydraulic simulations were carried out for a fully developed pipe network covering the entire municipality to ensure the feasibility of district heating supply. In addition, production capacity assessments were conducted to verify that the heat generation could meet the demand in the new supply areas.

Close cooperation with the district heating utility companies and their operations teams is a core part of our consultancy. At the project’s inception, several workshops were held to ensure that Gentofte District Heating’s technical standards and requirements were integrated into the design of the new areas.

Tendering

The works were tendered through two separate framework agreements, each covering approximately 45 km of main transmission pipeline. Both were issued as negotiated EU tenders under the Utilities Directive.

Norsyn was responsible for preparing the tender documentation, based on AB18 (a contract used in Denmark for construction projects that outlines the rights and obligations of the involved parties), supplemented with detailed specifications for earthworks, welding works, and pipe supply. This ensured a high level of quality and detail throughout all phases of the project.
