In spring 2022, Vestforbrænding launched District Heating Development Plan 2030 (orig. Varmeplan 2030), Denmark’s largest and most ambitious district heating project to date. A total of 450 km of district heating pipes will be installed across seven municipalities, with around 39,000 households to be connected to more climate-friendly district heating.
The goal is to expand service to more citizens across Vestforbrænding’s 19 owner municipalities, using surplus heat from waste incineration, industrial processes and other energy sources. Phase one focuses on rollout in Herlev, Ballerup, Gladsaxe, Lyngby, Furesø, Egedal and Frederikssund.
As consultant to M.J. Eriksson, Norsyn won two of the first three contracts and is currently supporting the rollout to 10,000 new customers.
Norsyn’s role
In the design phase, Norsyn was responsible for detailed design of the pipe network, route inspections and site visits to agree the placement of service connections.
We performed hydraulic calculations, pipe dimensioning and component selection in collaboration with the client, prepared risk assessments, permitting plans, layout drawings and longitudinal profiles for the main network. We also generated GIS polygons for new supply areas and exported network data for use in Vestforbrænding’s GIS platform.
Additionally, we designed and installed several shunt and heat exchanger stations between the transmission and distribution networks.
During execution, Norsyn conducted technical site supervision in collaboration with the turnkey contractor M.J. Eriksson.
Throughout the project, we have maintained full quality assurance in accordance with our ISO 9001 certification.
